Kasuga Taisha

Kasuga Taisha, the largest Shrine in Nara City, Japan, was founded 1,200 years ago when the capital was moved to Nara.

In over 30 buildings surrounding the main building and in the Shrine museum there are preserved and publicly exhibited over 300 national treasures and important cultural properties.  Within the Shrine precincts sacred deer, protected since ancient times as messengers of the deities, are allowed to wander about freely.
